For the utility mode....I figured that you were doing that...i did that twisting to Tap mistake too :)
As for Serato Dj mode on SP1....You may actually be getting issues running it in SL, if you do not take it Out of Serato Dj mode...I do remember not being able to trigger the Sample player mode button and other pad modes...I had the same no difference impression like you when i tested on my pc home, until i took it to work and things just started going all wrong on my macbook :P
As for the midi notes you hear...I can verify to you that even if the Rane interface is in use..If your onboard soundcard is connected to some sort of sound output anyhow (mixer-speakers etc)...and the volume is up... you Will be getting those notes out of any MIDI device trigger...not only the SP1...
The work around on this is to simply turn down the systems volume and maybe disconnect its cables running from any sort of source output (eg an open mixer/Aux channel) , or even better just disable your internal soundcard on device manager, while using the Rane interface...If you are using a laptop, you are limited to either disable or mute, as you will always have those internal laptop speakers working there.
You can also check the sound settings on control panel regrading the system sounds, but its way more simple to just mute and even more proper to temporarily disable that internal pc soundcard...Afterall its just adding latency to the overall system performance, so you wont be missing it....I have no clue about Dj on this...i am guessing that due to the fact that its another code, its working differently on those areas that is giving this issue...
Cheers and Happy NY
